This week brings a lot of new #1 comics. I’ve picked out the top 5 I’m most excited to read.
Uncanny X-Men #1
What I find interesting about the new Uncanny X-Men is that its a team lead by Magneto thats using force to respond to growing threats against mutants. It could lead to some very interesting stories and hopefully some surprises.
In a world that’s never hated or feared mutants more, there is only one constant: BIGGER THREATS REQUIRE MORE THREATENING X-MEN. Refusing to accept one more mutant death, the most ruthless mutants on Earth have banded together to proactively mow down their enemies. But with a team populated by relentless killers, one question applies above all others: Can they stay away from each other’s throats long enough to sever their targets?
Swamp Thing #1
Swamp Thing has always been a interesting character to me. This is the first Swamp Thing book in over a year. I’m really hoping it revitalizes the character. The Artwork seems to call back to its horror roots which in my mind is a good thing. I hope its in good hands, I’d hate to see another year hiatus.
Swamp Thing returns in an all-new series written by his co-creator, legendary writer Len Wein! Swamp Thing has received an ominous warning, and now he finds himself under attack from the forces of dark magic. These are more than just your average monsters—and there’s something much worse looming on the horizon for Alec Holland!
Four Eyes: Heart of Fire #1
So I’m really looking forward to this one. I confess I’ve never read any of the previous books. But I love the idea, It’s about a boy who tames a dragon in Depression-era New York City. Whats not to love?
Launching the second arc in the critically-acclaimed story of a boy and his dragon on the hunt for revenge in Depression-era New York City. The training begins.
Star Wars: Obi-Wan & Anakin #1
This series is taking place after The Phantom Menace and before the Clone Wars. We get to see a earlier dynamic between Obi-Wan and Anakin. All of the Marvel Star Wars books have been good so far I am looking forward to this one. Hopefully it will give us more light into the Obi-Wan and Anakin relationship.
Before their military heroism in the Clone Wars, before their tragic battle on Mustafar, and many decades before their final confrontation on the Death Star…they were Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Padawan learner, Anakin Skywalker. It’s been a few years since Obi-Wan pledged to train the young “chosen one,” but even as they have grown closer through training, it has been a difficult road. Now, called to a remote planet for assistance, Master and Padawan may be pushed to the breaking point. Writer Charles Soule (Lando, She-Hulk, Daredevil) and artist Marco Checchetto (Star Wars: Shattered Empire, Avengers World, Punisher) bring us a tale of the Jedi at the height of their power…
Doctor Strange #4
I’ve been enjoying the new Doctor Strange series. It’s just as weird as its always been with the inter-dimension beings and all. The artwork is always just weird and wonderful. I recommend giving this book a try. You might want to jump into at #1 though if you haven’t read the previous books. But since we are only at #4 it should be to much additional reading.
Doctor Strange has gathered a circle of magic-using friends to try and best monitor magic in the Marvel Universe. But this tactic is too late as forces are destroying all magical objects and beings in the multiverse and they are turning their sights on our dimension. At least Strange won’t have to die alone…
